DDr. Ma. Socorro Endrina-Ignacio is a registered nutritionist dietitian. In 1977 she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition degree from University of Santo Tomas and became an alumna of UPM-CPH having obtained her MSPH Nutrition with SEAMEO scholarship and DrPH Health Promotion and Education with PCHRD scholarship in 1985 and 2000 respectively. She was re-hired in June 2013 and now currently the College Secretary and Associate Professor of the Department of Nutrition.

Dr. Ignacio has over 30 years of experience working with DOH and international agencies, i.e. WB, ADB, USAID and Manoff Group where she served as nutrition and promotion advocacy officer, project operations specialist, social marketing specialist and behavior change communication technical advisor. With her international participation in developed and developing countries, she has gained expertise and now considered as the most sought after technical resource person in public health management, social marketing communication, behavior change communication, health sector reform, advocacy and public- private partnership. Among the many laurels that she is proud of includes: DOH Communication Manager that initiated the nationwide campaign that popularized locally produced iodized salt in the country- “FIDEL Iodized Salt”, Iron fortified “FVR Rice”, “Patak sa Asin” initiatives, Sangkap Pinoy Seal Program, and Bright Child Campaign of Early Child Care and Development (ECCD) and active member of the lobby group that facilitated the passage of ASIN Law, Food Fortification Law and ECCD Law. Together with UNICEF, she worked with the Department of Education to integrate in the primary level curriculum the iodized salt testing component that eventually increased household utilization of iodized salt.

She is a recipient of the following awards, First PCHRD Scholar who completed the DrPH program in 31/2 years given by PCHRD-DOST in March 2000, Best Speaker, Successful Leadership Training sponsored by Roaring Toastmaster International in 1990, Diamond Awardee as Achiever in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics given in 2002 during the Grand Alumni (Diamond) Homecoming of UST, Teacher of the Year 2002, awarded by St. Scholastica’s College –Junior Philippine Association of Nutrition, December 2002.

A number of her work had been published in a peer reviewed Journal of the Nutritionist-Dietitian’s Association of the Philippines. These are: Factors related to mother’s choice of infant feeding methods, Effect of an Educational Intervention Package on Weekly Supplemental Iron/folate Intake of Senior High School female Students in Calasiao, Pangasinan, Report of the Third Asian Conference on Food Safety and Nutrition held in Malaysia, Editorial on Fetal Programming and Editorial on Household Food Security.

Her most recent publication that is entitled Assessment of Sustainability of Nutrition Kiddie Class in Alaminos, Laguna: A Retrospective Review funded by the Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines and her recently concluded research was a Study on the Assessment of Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition Implementation in Selected Municipalities funded by the National Anti-Poverty Commission and United Nations Development Programme.
