Romeo R. Quizon, MSc Eng’g, FPSSE, ASEAN Eng
Professor
Department of Environmental and Occupational Health

Professor Romeo R. Quizon holds degrees in both Civil Engineering (CE) and Sanitary Engineering (SE). He has Philippine licenses to practice both professions.

Prof. Quizon began his career with a brief immersion in industry before joining the University of the Philippines Manila (UP Manila) as Instructor at the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, College of Public Health (1991). As faculty, he
performs the three-fold functions of teaching, research, and extension service (initiatives for the public and professions). He rose through the ranks to become Professor (2019) and was eventually elected Dean of the College of Public Health (2013-2016, 2016-2019) — the first Dean of the College from the engineering profession.

Prof. Quizon pursued his Masters degree in Tropical Public Health Engineering (Leeds University, UK). Upon returning from graduate studies, he continued research endeavors as CPH faculty and became known for expertise in environmental and occupational health. He has various publications aside from scientific articles, having contributed to several manuscripts, course manuals, manual of operations, technical briefs, reference standard books, and technical papers, particularly those concerning water sanitation, chemical safety, waste management, and environmental health.

Following a thirty-year career spent mostly as faculty of UP Manila, he earned the distinctions “Fellow of the Philippine Society of Sanitary Engineers” (2015) and “ASEAN Engineer” (2016). Prof. Quizon is one of the first Filipinos in the ASEAN Engineering Registry - a regional list of professionals towards the ASEAN-wide economic integration effort.
