Dr. Carlos Primero D. Gundran joined the Department as an Assistant Professor in June 2017. He finished Bachelor in Science in Medical Technology (1993), Doctor of Medicine (1997) both at the University of Santo Tomas. He also finished Residency Training in Emergency Medicine at UP PGH (2006) and Masters In Science in Disaster Medicine (2014). He is currently a fellow of the Philippine College of Emergency Medicine.

He has been involved with Pre-Hospital Care and EMS and had the following positions: Chair of the EMS and Disaster Medicine Committee of the Philippine College of Emergency Medicine (2011-2017); and President of the Philippine Society of Emergency Medical Technician (2010-2014). Assessor/Advisor of the Australasian Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (2008-2012). He became Medical Director of the following: Life Support Training International (2010-2015); Statmed Ambulance Service (2012); and Transcare Emergency Medical Services (2013-present).

His Clinical and disaster related experience are as follows: MSIII of DEM UP PGH (2013-2015); ER Consultant of Manila Doctor’s Hospital (2007-2010); Chair of the Community Disaster Preparedness Program of the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, UP Manila (2011-present); Disaster Preparedness and Management Coordinator of Manila Medical Center; Disaster Preparedness Committee Chair of UP-PGH (2011-2016); Chair of the Disaster Risk Management Subcommittee of UP Manila (2016-present), just to mention a few. He is also currently involved with the UP Resilience Institute.

Other experiences were: Remote Site Locum Physician of ISOS (2007-2008); Vessel Emergency Physician of a Norwegian Seismic Vessel (2008-2009) and also became the Associate Field Disaster Coordinator of WHO Bicol Region (2007-2008). He I also the present convenor of the Health, Emergencies and Disasters Study Group of NIH Up Manila.
