Angelica Anne E. Latorre, MPH
Assistant Professor

Prof. Angelica Anne Latorre is an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics. She is currently a scholar of Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and is taking her PhD in Implementation Medical Science under the Data Science Medicine Global Leader Program (IMS-DGLP) at Tokyo Medical and Dental University. She is an alumna of the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) and Master of Public Health (MPH) programs of UP Manila.

She joined the Department of Health’s Public Health Managers Placement Program, a two-year project which aimed to contribute to the improvement of health service delivery to marginalized and underserved areas. She also assisted in various research projects on antimicrobial resistance, and tuberculosis prevention and control before becoming a faculty member of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

Prof. Latorre led the Data Analytics Team that was deployed by the UP-CPH and WHO-Philippine Country Office (WCO-Philippines) to support the surveillance of COVID-19 in the National Capital Region (NCR) during the start of the pandemic. She collaborated with WHO-Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) on surveillance of COVID-19 at the Western Pacific Region. She also served as a consultant in projects on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and adolescent reproductive health funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Department of Health, and British Embassy Manila.

As a researcher, Prof. Latorre is interested in developing risk prediction models for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), application of machine learning in epidemiology, application of time-series analysis for surveillance, and reproductive health. She is also a technical reviewer for local journals and research agencies, and is a resource person on health research methods and biostatistics.
