Dr Nina G. Gloriani obtained her BS Public Health degree from the Institute of Public Health and her Medical degree ( top 10% of her class) from the College of Medicine of UP Manila. She obtained the MSc-Prelims (First Honours), and her PhD in Microbial Immunology and Immunochemistry from the University of Melbourne in Australia where she completed her dissertation at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. She is currently Full Professor of Medical Microbiology and Microbial Immunology in the Department of Medical Microbiology. From 2007 to 2013, she served as Dean of the College of Public Health (CPH), UP Manila, and concurrently, the Director of SEAMEO-TROPMED Regional Center for Public Health, Hospital Administration, Environmental and Occupational Health. From 1995-2005, she served as Director of the Institute of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology of the National Institutes of Health-Philippines, and from 1995 to 1998, as Chairman of the Department of Medical Microbiology of CPH.
Dr. Gloriani established the Microbial Immunology Research Group which addressed seroepidemiologic and molecular studies on a number of infectious disease agents. She has 54 scientific publications mostly on Hepatitis A, B and C, HIV, Hantaan Virus, Leptospirosis, and a number of vaccine trials. In 2010, Dr. Gloriani’s research group received a five-year grant from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the implementation of a comprehensive program for the prevention and control of leptospirosis in the Philippines. This LepCon Program also received support from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Philippine Council for Research and Development (PCHRD).

Aside from engaging in biomedical research, clinical microbiology and technical consultancy work, Dr. Gloriani continues to be very much involved in promoting awareness and understanding of the safety issues and risks related to genetically modified (GM) food and crops. This advocacy reaches as far as the Southeast Asian countries , where she is often invited to lecture on the science behind the technology. She is currently the President of the Biotechnology Coalition of the Philippines (BCP), a non-profit organization working for the safe and responsible use of modern biotechnology in the Philippines and in the Asia Pacific region. With her leadership of the BCP, in partnership with multi-sectoral groups such as professional science societies, consumer groups, manufacturers, and even farmers, awareness of biotechnology products’ risks and benefits reach up to the grass roots level.

Dr. Gloriani is a Fellow of various medical and professional societies in Microbiology, Allergy and Immunology, Editor of the Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Philippine Journal of Allergy and Immunology and peer reviewer of Acta Medica Philippina. She continues to serve as the Chairperson of the National Certification Committee for the Eradication of Poliomyelitis in the Philippines (since 1997), and serves as technical consultant to various agencies in the fields of medical biotechnology, medical microbiology and microbial immunology.
Dr. Gloriani has received numerous awards most notable of which are the UPAA 2006 Outstanding Professional Award in Public Health, and the PSM Outstanding Microbiologist award in the same year.
