Emerito Jose A. Faraon, MD, MBA

Dr. Emerito Jose A. Faraon is an Assistant Professor and currently the Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Administration (DHPA). He joined the Department in 2011, after making what he describes as the providential leap of faith from the world of private medical practice to the academe. He is a licensed physician and holds a postgraduate degree of Master in Business Administration from the College of Business Administration (CBA) in UP Diliman. The UP College of Public Health (CPH) is like his second home, as this is where he obtained his undergraduate degree of BS in Public Health.

Dr. Faraon is also the current Chair of the Master in Hospital Administration (MHA) academic Committee, and has been teaching courses in hospital administration , strategic management, international health, and health economics. Prior to this, he was the Chairperson of both the BS Public Health (BSPH) Program Committee (2013—2014). He was also the College Information Officer from 2011 to 2013.

As a researcher, he has been involved in the international Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study led by Dr. Christopher J. L. Murray of the University of Washington and the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) in the US since 2013. Currently, he is part of the team which is doing research on how to reconfigure primary health care models in the context of universal health care.

For consultancies and services outside the academe, he has rendered professional services for the following organizations: World Health Organization (WHO), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Orthopedic Center (POC), and San Lazaro Hospital (LZH). He was recently elected as the Vice-President of the Philippine Council of Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (PCAHO), and he is a member of the Board of Directors of the UP CPH Alumni Association. He is also an active member of the Universal Healthcare Study Group and is working presently to make the establishment of the Center for Equity in Health in UP CPH a dream come true.
