Emerito Jose A. Faraon, MD, MBA

Dr. Emerito Jose A. Faraon is an Associate Professor of the Department of Health Policy and Administration, and former Assistant to the Dean for Academic Affairs of the University of the Philippines Manila College of Public Health. He is a licensed physician with an undergraduate background in Public Health, and a Master of Business Administration graduate degree from the Virata School of Business in UP Diliman In his less than ten years stay in UP CPH, he held various administrative positions including Chair of his department, Chair of both graduate and undergraduate academic programs, as well as being the College Information Officer. From 2015 to 2016, he was seconded to the Department of Health (DOH) as a Senior Technical Officer / Medical Specialist IV and was assigned to the DOH’s Office for Technical Services. His academic focus and research interests focus mainly on health systems strengthening and the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) of which he has been a Philippine research collaborator since 2013. He has various GBD research publications found in the Lancet, the NEJM, BMJ, JAMA, and the International Journal of Public Health. These publications are in collaboration with the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) based in the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. Academically, Dr. Faraon is also a part of the international teaching collaboration with the Fielding School of Public Health in the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) and he periodically teaches online (via Zoom) in courses like health economics and international health and development. Since 2011, Dr. Faraon has also been a reviewer of various research studies managed by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) of the Department of Science and Technology, the Philippine Journal of Health Research and Development, and Acta Medica Philippina.
