Emerito Jose A. Faraon, MD, MBA

Dr. Emerito Jose A. Faraon is an Assistant Professor, and former Assistant to the Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA) and former Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Administration (DHPA). He is a licensed physician and has a postgraduate degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the College of Business Administration (CBA) in UP Diliman. The UP College of Public Health (CPH) is like his second home, as this is where he obtained his undergraduate degree of BS in Public Health.

Dr. Faraon was also the former Chair of the Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) academic Committee, and the BS Public Health (BSPH) Program Committee (2013—2014). He was also the College Information Officer from 2011 to 2015 and from 2017 until early 2019. From 2015 to 2016, he was seconded in the Department of Health (DOH) and served as Senior Technical Officer at the Office of Technical Services (OTS). He has been teaching courses in both public health and hospital administration and is an active academic collaborator with the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) Fielding School of Public Health colleagues teaching health economics and international health to both UPM and UCLA graduate students.

As a researcher, he has been involved in the international Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study led by Dr. Christopher J. L. Murray of the University of Washington (UW) and the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) in the US since 2013. He has numerous publications locally and internationally in scientific journals like the Acta Medica Philippina, JAMA, International Journal of Public Health and the Lancet.

For consultancies and services outside the academe, he has rendered professional services for the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Department of Health (DOH). He is also an active member of the Universal Healthcare Study Group and is working presently to make the establishment of the Center for Equity in Health a dream come true.
